My Grandmother Maria
Maria, 89, has beaten cancer twice. After her operation to remove the tumors, she chose to forego
radiation treatment in favour of taking large doses of vitamins intravenously. She has been cancer
free for over two years now.
My Sister Justine
Justine Warrington is an actress and the daughter of Graham Warrington - one of Canada’s
foremost architectural photographers. When Justine was in acting school, he became a popular
figure at many of her theater performances where he photographed her and her colleagues on
stage. This earned him the nickname “Pappa-Razzi”. Our father Graham died of cancer in 1998.
About Cancer Connections
Cancer Connections was created by PhotoSensitive to help raise awareness about the high levels
of cancer facing Canadians. As the PhotoSensitive web site states:
On the basis of current incidence rates, 38% of Canadian women and 44% of Canadian men will
develop cancer during their lifetimes*. Steadily rising trends over the last ten years make these
statistics more and more disturbing. We believe that this project will encourage each of us as
Canadians to increase our awareness of cancer risks, and, ultimately, to be instrumental in our own
prevention of the disease.
Cancer Connections was officially launched in Toronto, Ontario on May 20, 2008 at Nathan Phillips
Square, City Hall, with almost 300 photographers participating. The exhibition is currently traveling
across Canada. If you wish to learn more about the project, please visit the PhotoSensitive web
site.
